The Peace of Nature

Updated: Mar 1, 2022

This weekend I had such an uplifting experience having breakfast in the woods with Jesse. It was the first forest breakfast adventure for us in over a month, and it came at a perfect time. I was really in need of some earthly nourishment and grounding. I packed the backpack with the honey sweetened tea, 2 mugs, 2 thermoses with cooked spiced fruit, and 2 spoons. We set off through our own trail behind our house into the forest. I followed Jesse's lead off the trail through thick fern beds, wetland, low growing balsam firs, and a forest of mostly red maples. We found a dry spot to sit on some moss next to a few tall red spruce trees. We faced the rising sun as it shone it's bright rays through the colorful foliage creating a kaleidoscope of color. Stopping in the forest and observing the small details brings me tremendous joy and peace. All of these memories below are etched in my being as very meaningful parts of my life that I will cherish forever.

  • a single leaf falling from a tree and effortlessly passing some branches before gently landing on the ground

  • the scent of the balsam fir wafting in the air as we walked through a large mat of 2 foot plants

  • the assortment of colors and shapes of mushrooms perfectly posing on the earth

  • the sea of ferns turned orange covered with newly fallen crimson red maple leaves

Sharing these moments with Jesse is truly special. He enjoys the forest as much as I do. There's something about going in the woods and drinking tea together in the early morning. It's such a tender and sacred act....my heart almost aches just thinking about it. The joy, peace, and presence I felt in the woods stayed with me throughout the rest of the day. I truly felt uplifted from within. Perhaps you are inspired to go on your own peaceful adventure in nature.
